Analyzing Iran’s interests in Syria shows its Imperialist Mindset
Iran is actively engaged in proxies in the Middle East, where it uses small groups in different countries to run its agenda and implement its ideology. So far as Syria is concerned, it considers Syrian governments its ally, and it actively and strategically supports Assad’s regime there. World leaders are raising their voice over the cruelty and inhuman behavior of Assad’s regime, but Iran is supporting him. First of all, Iran has become a party to this cruel and inhuman treatment of Syrian citizens at the hands of Assad’s regime, and on the other hand, Iran is interfering in another country to use its position for its imperialist mindset.
Iran has used the conflict in Syria for its purpose as Iran has interests in Syria, so Iran has been in close connection with the Syrian government. There are many differences between the two countries in terms of their priorities, but over time, both countries have continued their partnership and relationship. Both countries are interested only to hold control of the land, and Iran, especially takes Syria to satisfy its imperialist mindset to be present in any other country in the Middle East. It raises concerns regarding peace in the Middle East region and the world.
In one of such incidents alarming the peace of the Middle East and the world, Iranian forces fired a rocket at Golan Heights which are controlled by Israel. It was revealed that it was not by mistake, but Iranian forces targeted Golan Heights after serious and specific calculations. In this attack, the forward position of the Israeli military was targeted. In response to this strike by Iranian forces from Syrian soil, Israel responded with an air strike killing militants belonging to Syria, Iran, and Hezbollah. It is only one example of how Iran can use the conflict in Syria to serve its interests.
There are many parties of the Syrian conflict, and it has become a battleground of world powers. It is not justified to take the side of any of the parties to the conflict. However, intentions may be evaluated where some powers are only responding to the emerging situation while there are some powers which are using the conflict as a means to increase their influence. Iran comes in the latter position due to its interests in Syria where it uses Syrian conflict for its own benefit. It considers Assad’s regime as an ally, and Iran desires to increase its influence in the Middle East.
Firing rockets on the Golan Heights by Iranian forces reveal real intentions of Iran because it seems to increase the jurisdiction of the battleground. The question is what would happen when battleground would expand by covering countries other than Syria. Destruction may not be in any country’s interests, but it may serve the interests of countries which are struggling in peace. When a country is at war that invasion of one country in another country is also considered as an act of war. Then, impact and magnitude do not remain under control. In this context, there is a need to further analyze the intentions of Iran in Syria because its imperialist mindset may have many hidden aims and agendas to pursue.
