Analyzing Reactions of Arab Leaders after Fujairah Tanker Attacks
Tanker attacks in the Gulf of Oman and Strait of Hormuz have also been named as Fujairah tanker attacks because the incident occurred near Fujairah Emirate of UAE. Naming these attacks as Fujairah tanker attacks is also the realization of the importance of UAE. The country has never been involved in any conflict, and it has earned a place of a modern state in today’s world. Saudi Arabia is another country vocal along with the UAE over these attacks. It is fully certain and clear about who is responsible for these attacks. The incident took place in the crucial gulf region, which is an important area in the Arab world; therefore, reaction from Arab leaders should be analyzed.
Analysis of reactions of Arab leaders is important to assess the level of seriousness among them over this incident of tanker attacks. It has been observed that notable reactions over these attacks have been from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, and the Arab League, which is representing the organization of the Arab World. Reactions have similarities based on condemnation of these attacks, but they differ over establishing the responsibility of these attacks.
The head of the Arab League has issued warning against Iran that Iranian brothers should be careful, and they should revise the path chosen. According to the head of the league, it would not be in favor of any country if confrontation remains in the region. There is the strongest reaction from Saudi Arabia, which has held Iran responsible for these attacks. Saudi Arabia has become only an Arab country which considers Iran responsible for tanker attacks. The US and UK are also issuing statements holding Iran responsible for these attacks as the US says a video is the evidence of involvement of Iran.
Egypt has also issued a statement after the incident in which these attacks have been condemned. The country has not put the responsibility for these attacks on any country. However, the most important statement has been made by the UAE, which is located the nearest to these attacks. These attacks occurred off the coast of Fujairah. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of UAE says that the country does not have any evidence to hold any country responsible for these attacks. On the other hand, Kuwait has continued transport of its ships after these attacks.
Reactions from Arab leaders indicate that Saudi Arabia is the only country which is taking a clear stance on these attacks. Other countries only condemned these attacks, and UAE says that there is no evidence of the responsibility for these attacks. It may be the reason that Saudi Arabia has been facing a challenge from Houthis in Yemen. The Arab League has issued a warning to Iran, which is a good step by the organization. However, it may be dangerous for the Arab World if it does not issue a joint response against these attacks. They should at least assess which country may get benefits from these attacks. Keeping eyes closed is not the solution, but all countries should be vocal against these attacks. Only such an attitude can guarantee peace in the region.
