Stakeholder Engagement and Communication Plan

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication Plan: Johnsons & Johnsons

Introduction:

As a global healthcare company, Johnsons & Johnsons needs to constantly interact with its stakeholder groups on local, national and global levels. Credo, which was written around 70 years ago focuses on the diversity of the stakeholders for which the company is responsible for reporting to and helps the company in its stakeholder engagement.

The company needs to foster its relationships with external manufacturers, suppliers for helping them in making the product and with the customers for purchasing the products, with nurses, doctors and patients for using them and with shareholders and employees for running the company. Other than this, the engagement with civil society, community organisations, and the government is also done for the advancement of the vision of the health of humanity.

Stakeholder Engagement Plan:

The Stakeholder Engagement takes place at all levels of the company ranging from the manufacturing sites for the employees to senior management in all of its functional and business departments to the Board of directors and the Executive Committees. Information that is gained through the interactions of these stakeholders is communicated throughout line management and if needed for the senior management. The company also uses a customer relationship management system for assurance of follow-up for certain stakeholder engagements for the key operational and business segments.

Stakeholders:

For this project, the stakeholders identified are;

  • Government
  • Management
  • Team
  • Customers
  • Consumers

For the development of the stakeholder engagement plan, the roles, interests, expectations and methods of engagement used for the stakeholders need to be identified. These are presented in the table below;

Stakeholders of Johnsons & Johnsons

(Johnsons & Johnsons, 2019) (Johnsons & Johnsons, 2017)

The table above shows the roles, interests, expectations, level of interest and method engagement with the stakeholders of Johnsons & Johnsons. The Employees, Government, Consumer and Customers have a high level of interest in the project.

Power Interest Grid:

Power Interest Grid

(Goergen et al., 2010)

The Power Interest Grid Shows that in terms of the level of power and level of interest of the stakeholders in this project, how much engagement and communication is required. For this purpose, this Grid is developed. This shows that the most important stakeholders who are the key players in this project are the project team and the management of J&J. Secondly, the Shareholder, Consumers, Customers and Media are the stakeholders whose interest are to be satisfied not to create any issues. The B Block holds the stakeholder with high interest and low power which includes the employees. The employees would be influenced by this project and would like to be aware of what’s happening in their company, however as they hold little power, they are not likely to become part of the decision-making process. This shows that this group of stakeholders is needed to be kept informed of any updates on the project (Dionisio, 2017). The minimal effort is required for the block group of stakeholders who have low power and low interest in this project. This shows that they only needed to remain informed when they inquire about it.

As per the desired engagement level of each of the stakeholders, their communication requirements and the Information to be distributed, its frequency and timeframe are going to be decided. The engagement process for these stakeholders is also explained in the table. For the Key players and for the stakeholders needed to be satisfied for this specific project, three Persons will be held responsible for the communication of the information.
