I have chosen to apply for the master’s in social work because I believe that social work is my calling, and this is the career that I have dreamed of pursuing. From the beginning of my professional life, I have been involved as a social care worker, in diverse healthcare or educational settings. Over the years, I have gained medical knowledge and insights to the understanding of both human physiology and psychology. My education in special needs education and experience has given me deep insights into dealing with people with different abilities and special needs, which involved working with young children and people with mental health issues. I believe that my nature makes me compatible with the type of work that social care involves, as I am intuitive and empathic and am able to make a rapport with the people I have to care for. I have also worked in a family support care facility, which has given me exposure to family dynamics and their role in healthcare administration for the service user. I have the planning, management, and organisational skills that are needed for coordinating efforts in case of multi-stakeholder involvement. I believe that it is best to remain person-centric and to engage the support of all stakeholders in developing and implementing a health care plan.
I have always had a positive attitude toward myself, my environment and other people – one thing which is maybe the reason I was very passionate about studying Early Childhood Studies with special needs education. I am good at working under pressure as I have patience and dedication to resolving difficult situations. I believe my experience, working in healthcare settings where specific medical procedures needed to be performed, and working in family support service where multi-agency coordination was often involved, have prepared me to take on the challenges. I am also well-versed in the laws, and the legal framework that is operational in the context of social work and I have exhibited integrity and ethical code of conduct in all my past professional dealings. I am familiar with the Mental Health Capacity Act (2005) and other laws that apply in the context of working with young children and vulnerable populations. I have also written several papers on the topic of ethical and legal requirements for a social care worker, toward the development of which I conducted intensive and exhaustive research.
However, more than the technical training or my hard work in understanding the legal or technical issues involved in a social care setting, I believe that it is my innate character that aligns well with the job of a social care worker. I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of others and for improving the quality of life for all. This is one of the reasons I chose to complete my bachelor’s degree in the discipline of Early Childhood Studies with Special Education Needs. My studies in Special Needs Education made me highly ethical and believed in freedom and dignity for all, which make me treat all those that I care for with respect and understanding. My education in the field of Special Needs Education made me a more emphatic and understanding person who has helped me in my profession. I firmly believe that the role of a social care worker is more of a facilitator than an authority in the lives of the people and that it requires adherence to a strict code of conduct and behaviour. I have an impeccable track record of working hard and diligently at all my previous engagements and have received referrals and recommendations for my services.
My academic qualifications, job experience, as well as my personality, make me an exceptionally good fit for the role of a social care worker. Moreover, since I am passionate about social work, I believe I will be in a position to spend the time and effort that is needed with work that involves caring for others. It is with this background that I hope to be able to not only get accepted in the applied course but also to excel at it.
