Purpose:
This assignment aims at developing a clear understanding of students on what qualifications and experiences employers seek from Corporate Accountants. Students will have to search and collect a significant number of job advertisements posted by employers in the electronic or print media or in the job search portals throughput the first 8 weeks of their trimester. Based on the collected job advertisements, they will have answer a series of questions and evaluate the qualifications and experiences sought in those advertisements with the learnings objectives, outcomes and contents of the subject.
Assessment task:
Collect as many job advertisements as possible on the position of ‘corporate accountant’, ‘corporate and management accountant’ ‘senior accountant’, ‘tax accountant’, ‘corporate financial accountant’ ‘corporate financial and management accountant’, ‘accountant corporate finance’, ‘senior financial accountant’ ‘senior accountant: tax and corporate reporting’ or any other similar positions published by Australian employers in electronic or print media or in job search portals (such as seek, Jora, Indeed etc.) from the first week of the Trimester to the week 7 of the Trimester.
Based on your collected advertisements, do the following tasks:
- How many job advertisements you have collected in total? How many job advertisements you have collected from each sources.

After analysis of the 30 advertisements from across the industries in Australia, the requirement of the companies in terms of the job of the Corporate Accountant is shown in detail in this report. The report shows that having the general business knowledge, the specific expertise in the technology, effective communication skills, leadership abilities, specialized experience in the accounting field and customer service orientation are enough to make you attractive for the employers looking for the corporate accountants.
Introduction:
The report shows what the different industries and their companies are looking for in the corporate accountant. Around 30 job advertisements from various sectors and employers published within the last two months have been examined in detail. The report shows how companies require technical expertise as well as computer and software skills. The companies need 2 plus experience for this job, and a must have of CPA/CA. Other than this, the personal skills of communication, leadership, and accounting qualification are also highly regarded.
Detailed Analysis of the Advertisements for Corporate Accountants:
1. List of Job Advertisements
I have collected thirty job advertisements from various sources in total from the online job portals platforms of Australia. The specific job portals that I have used for the collection of these advertisements include the sources of Indeed.com, Seek.com, jora.com, and LinkedIn Australia. From each of the sources, I have collected these job advertisements. I have collected 10 advertisements from LinkedIn Australia, 5 advertisements from Seek.com, 5 advertisements from jora.com, and the remaining 10 advertisements from the job portal of Indeed.com.

8. Missing Attributes
The specific attributes of having the knowledge of SharePoint’s, MS Teams, Sage Software Products, ERP Systems (BPCS), Hyperion Planning Tool and Power BI, OLAP technology, accounting software of Great Plains, Accounting ERPs and Budgeting Tools, Net Suite, Dynamix AX and TM1 is missing. Other than this, working in ERP software, working, and supervising of the teams also needs to be looked into. Furthermore, the tax regulations and knowledge on the filing of the income tax, Good and services tax and other grants are very limited. The internal and external auditing requirements and the support needed from the corporate accountant are also not covered in this unit. It is also evident that we do not possess any knowledge on Contract Law, Australian Accounting Standards, Public Finance and Audit Act 1983 and Treasury Directions, taxation knowledge of GST, and income tax, Fuel tax credits, taxable payments, fringe benefits tax, grants. These specific details of the jobs can be made strong by working on it.
9. Needed Skills and Attributes
As per my knowledge and research, the corporate accountant needs to have expertise in six different skillets to become a successful corporate accountant. Firstly, he or she needs to have a basic general knowledge of the business and how accounting plays its role in the big picture of the business. Understanding the business is key to working effectively at the job. Secondly, it is imperative to have up-to-date expertise in technology. Having skills in Advanced excel, experience with ERP like Oracle or SAP, knowing the business intelligence software knowledge of QuickBooks, and Visual Basic skills are crucial for individuals to have. Thirdly, communication skills are very important to have as well. The accountant needs to have a strong proficiency in verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Leadership abilities are other major attributes which companies are mostly looking for in the professionals. Therefore, it is important to gain experience to grow your expertise in leadership skills. Having customer service orientation is also very instrumental as client engagement and stakeholder management is one of the primary attributes needed. Furthermore, in addition, having a specialized experience lie working for a specific sector or in specific areas pays off as well (RobertHalf.com, 2018).

The report has examined 30 job advertisements from various sectors and employers published within the last two months, who are looking for Corporate Accountants. The report shows how the companies advertise their jobs and what attributes qualifications, and professional experience these employers require in these jobs.
