a-Major Deliverable and Drafting WBS
The List or Major Deliverable of this Particular Project is following
- Awareness Regarding Soccer
- Fund Raising
- Maintenance
- Upgrade of Change Rooms and Associated Club Building
- Coaching Clinics Through Earned Revenues
b-Major Deliverables Associated with Soccer Tournament
The primary deliverable of this project or tournament is in the spotlight. It seems like a voluntary tournament or project to support children and young population in game development. After conducting this project, awareness regarding soccer will be increased. The second deliverable of this incredible project is fund raising. The company will have adequate funding through this tournament, and it can help to conduct maintenance. Also, another project deliverable is the strengthening of potential coaching clinics through earned revenues. On the other hand, the upgrade of change rooms and associated club building is possible after completing this project successfully. The drafting work break down structure for this project is following
c-Elevating Problems through WBS
Some problems were in the limelight when it came to the first meeting. Samantha integrated with many stakeholders to identify issues and get rid of them through streamlining several solutions. For instance, one of the prominent issues or problems which was detected in the meeting was identifying a sponsor, as it was tough to find an adequate sponsor. Consequently, in the work breakdown structure, the tournament team will find a sponsor in different steps. For instance, the management will define objectives and scope and then find a few local sponsors. WBS stresses the comprehensive analysis of available sponsors. It sets the foundation to choose or select the sponsor. Another issue, which was identified in the meeting, was injustice on the soccer field. Thus, in the execution process of a work break down structure, the project team will be in a better position to have qualified refers to bring justice to the game. Another critical issue, which was founded in the case study or early strategic meeting, was the project team contained limited funds or financial resources. Due to these limited financial resources, it was to be decided whether the project team would award players or teams with trophies or medals. Medals were cheaper options than trophies. In the planning process of work break down the structure
d-Finding Additional Information
Smathna founded additional information by navigating several previous events or similar tournaments. In terms of cost and management, the management was in a better position to predict new needs or requirements in this local tournament. Another source of information for Smathna was his partner, Renaldo. He has experience in the construction industry and projects. He helped her out in the making or planning work activities. For instance, he discussed different work activities and requirements with her and shaped the work breakdown structure.
e-Accurate Cost Estimate through WBS
It is a fact that the work breaks down structure helped to estimate the cost of each activity. The work breaks down structure helped to make the accurate project schedule, and accordingly, the numbers of days were to be calculated. After assessing the number of days regarding each activity, Smathna and his partner calculated the accurate cost. For instance, different work breaks down structure activities such as project, control, plan, execution, and control are in the limelight. Each project activity contains multiple sun activities. Thus, it seems imperative for project management. For each activity, project management was in a better position to identify required resources such as financial, human, and technological. All costs or each activity in the work breakdown structure were to be calculated. By combining the cost of all activities, the overall cost has been calculated. The work breaks down structure provides valuable information. First, it helped to define and organize the required work. Based on the information regarding each activity, the project manager was able to develop the schedule quickly. Interestingly, the project management was able to estimate special efforts, which were associated with different activities. The work breaks down structure is valid in terms of valuable information, as potential risks are to be identified. It is a nag fact that the data from the work break down structure was accurate because it facilitated avoiding ambiguities. In short, Smathna and her team set the foundation for estimating cost and efforts, and accordingly, further activities or phases of the project could be directed (Miller, 2008).
Part Two
In this particular sports or soccer project, project management has identified several risks. These risks should be identified early to set the foundation for several risk mitigation strategies. For instance, prominent or visible in this project management process are failing to show up at designated games, team fighting, pivotal errors committed be referee, abusive behavior players, inadequate or limited parking, lack of team registration, and serious injuries. The assessment, response, and contingency of these risks are illustrated in the table below
Recommendation for Responding Risks
Event | Response | Contingency |
a. Referees failing to show up at designated games | The adequate response to this event or risk is that the project team can arrange multiple training sessions for referees. The lack of showing up in designated games may lead to lack knowledge and experience of the game. Thus, training sessions are better options to streamline the role of referees. | Lack of showing up in designated games may result in poor quality, as spectators and teams will be dissatisfied. Interest in the game will be diminished, and it is a significant threat regarding the project goals. |
b. Fighting between teams | It is a significant risk, and the appropriate response is to be established visible and practical conduct. All teams have to follow this conduct to shape ethical behavior. | Fighting between teams is a big issue, as it can disrupt all matches and impair the overall image of the tournament. |
c. The pivotal error committed by a referee that determines the outcome of a game | There should be criteria for referrers, as they have to be accountable or responsible for their decision. Of course, some penalties for them are suitable. However, the review system must be introduced to eliminate the consequences or outcomes of these pivotal errors. | The pivotal error can impair the quality of the game, and in the end, the team which is not deserved can win. |
d. Abusive behavior along the sidelines by parents | There should be a code of ethics and a code of conduct for players, as any abuse by the player can get him out of the game. | Abusive behavior can eliminate the element of respect in ground |
e. Inadequate parking | There should be a place on rest for parking, as it can help to avoid the congested situation. | The overcrowded situation can convert many parents and spectators, as people may be restrained from watching the match and reaching home at the time. |
f. Not enough teams signing up for the different age brackets | There should be an adequate campaign to attract teams in the region. | Lack of registration may lead to limited competition, and it may loess compelling for people and existing teams. |
g. Serious injury | The arrangement of the medical team to provide first aid must be evident. | Serious injury can discourage other players, as it may divert attention. Also, serious injury can take a precious life. |
Other things Need to be considered
There are other things which are to be considered. For instance, this voluntary project can cause resistance from project stakeholders. Thus, there is a need to provide the motive to all these stakeholders to show assertiveness and intent. It seems imperative to make every stakeholder of the project team member a productive contributor. The best thing that Smathna and her team can do is to make this volunteer project professional process and convince the local council, teams, and other stakeholders to show the assertiveness. Apart from it, the scope of the project can be changed with time, and it is also a critical risk. Many teams may be willing to entre in this tournament. Therefore, the firm should keep this project flexible to make some adjustments
Justifying the choice of Risk Treatment Options
Due to these possible risks in this particular project, there is always a need to contain an appropriate risk treatment option. It is a kind of risk mitigation strategy that must be executed along with some improvisations. For instance, the best risk treatment option in this project is sharing the risks through partnerships, agreements, and further insurances. The company has to identify these issues and find council partners in the town to support the event. For instance, the contract with the hospital can be sufficient to enable first aid and hospitalization in case of any severe injury. On the other hand, the project team can include any enforcement agency to implement the code of conduct in case of any inappropriate behavior or fighting. Thus, risk-sharing is the best way to mitigate or reduce the likelihood of these risks, and, outcomes of the project can be increased (Hill, 2017).
